How to Apply Skin-care Products

We know it would be great if you could bring home the skin care experts from the spa here and have them give you a professional quality facial everyday to keep your skin healthy and glowing. We might not be able to make that happen, but we can help you learn how to achieve spa quality skincare at home to help lengthen the benefits of your facials with us and maintain healthy and happy skin.

To help you achieve the skin results that are important to you and your specific skin type it is important to see a professional who can help come up with a treatment plan for your skins needs, provide you with in spa services like facials and chemical peels, and recommend at home skin-care products chosen with your skin type and needs in mind.

Once you have your at home skin-care products it can be a little confusing trying to remember how and when your suppose to use each product. Today we wanted to make it a little easier by going over some general guidelines for how to apply skin-care products at home.

Of course the products you use at home will differ greatly depending on your skin type, your skin needs/goals, and what your skincare professional recommends for your home care products. However, most home care routines will include a variation of the products we included. We hope this guide will help you get the most effective use your at home skin-care products and will make it a little easier figuring out what you skin-care routine is. That being said, if your skin-care professional suggest doing things differently absolutely take their advice as they are the professional and will know best what your skin needs.

Let's get started, the products that you use on your skin are not going to be as effective as they could be if you are not using them correctly. Therefore, the products you use are just as important as HOW you use them. Here is how to apply your skin-care products in the correct order to get the most benefit from the products.

1. Pre-Cleanse

Do you love that deep clean feeling you get after a facial at the spa? Bring the feeling home by incorporating this step into your routine. The pre-cleanse is the ideal first step in your evening skincare routine. The pre-cleanse step is designed to remove the days makeup along with traces of excess oils and impurities. I suggest trying the Gentle Eye Makeup Remover from Glo Skin Beauty, saturated a cotton ball or round with the product and simply wipe away traces of the day. Don't worry about rinsing off your face with this step you will be rinsing after your cleanser.

2. Cleanse

This step should be done both morning and evening. In the morning their is no need to pre-cleanse you can jump right into using your cleanser. In the evening you need to do both the pre-cleanse and cleanse because it's important to clean away the stuff that has built up on the skin throughout the day before going in with the cleanser. This allows the cleanser to penetrate deeper into the skin since it doesn't need to cut through all the makeup, oil, and impurities first. You will want to use the specific cleanser recommended for your skin type. Work in your cleanser by massaging in circular motions for about 1 minute, avoid the eye area, then rinse clear.

3. Exfoliate

Exfoliating is important because it helps remove built up dead skin cells that cause the skin surface to appear dull, it also helps remove buildup from the follicles to help skin stay clear. By removing build up of debris and dead skin cells during this step it allows other products to absorb more easily into the skin as you continue with your skin care steps. You should exfoliate about 2-4 times per week, and if your planning to do a mask plan to do your exfoliation the same day before you apply your mask. Work in your exfoliating product for 1-2 minutes and then rinse away with warm water. We love the One Fine Day Sugar Scrub from Farmhouse Fresh and the Gentle Enzyme Exfolliant from Glo Skin Beauty, designed for sensitive skin it can be used by a variety of skin types.

4. Mask

Use a mask 2-4 times per month to deeply nourish the skin and reach into the uppermost layers of skin to help heal and repair. Their are many different types of mask that do a variety of things, some masks work to repair skin and help with anti-aging, while others help to draw out impurities from the skin. Depending on what mask you get will also determine how it's applied, some masks are creams that you apply others are sheet masks. We love the line of masks from Farmhouse Fresh, one of our favorites is the Sundae Best mask featuring CoQ10 to help with anti-aging. If you do have more sensitive skin you will want to use masks less often so as not to irritate the skin. If you have aging skin you may want to do masks more often as the skin doesn't slough off as quickly as it once did and using a mask will help keep the skin healthy and glowing.

5. Tone

Use your toner in the morning and evening to help restore skin's PH to a balance level and help give your serum and moisturizer a more even and smooth application. Apply toner with a cotton round or put in a spritz bottle and spritz evenly over face.

6. Antioxidant or Serum and eye treatment

Serums are the powerhouse product for the skin. They have tons of concentrated active ingredients designed to absorb quickly and deeply into the skin to help transform the skin by targeting different skin issues. This is also a great time to apply any eye treatment that your skin care professional included in your skin-care regimen.

8. Moisturize

Keep your skin healthy and hydrated by apply moisturizer in the morning and evening. Having hydrated skin not only keeps your skin healthy and radiant but it instantly makes skin appear younger and healthier.

9.Protect

For morning don't forget the SPF. If your willing to follow all these steps to care for your skin but don't apply SPF during the day it's like shooting yourself in the foot. Sun exposure not only increase your risk of skin cancer but it causes the skin to age faster, causing discoloration and fine lines and wrinkles. Apply a facial SPF of at least 30.

Extra steps that are equally of importance-

10. Protect your hands- Don’t ignore your hands, taking care of them now by keeping the skin moisturized. Hands have thinner skin and fewer oil glands the provide natural moisture, this can cause them to appear crepey and develop dark spots as you age. Take care of them now by making hand protection and moisturizing part of your daily routine. Apply your facial sunscreen to your hands each morning and slather on a rich, moisturizing cream at night before bed.

11. Don’t skip out below the chin- We spend so much time focused on the face that the neck and décolletage can sometimes be ignored. The neck has thinner skin which is more susceptible to showing signs of aging, the neck area will develop saggy skin and creasing faster than the face. You can help prevent your neck and décolletage from giving away your age earlier than you’d like by giving the area a little TLC when your doing your facial routine. Extend your daily application of skin-care, the serums, moisturizers, spf down to your neck and décolletage to help prevent and repair damage and slow signs of aging.
